CRITERIA FOR
PARTICIPATION

  • Applicants may be a company, collective, cooperative, foundation,society or village community, currently existing and supporting handloomed weavers in Southeast Asia. Each applicant should be able to show that there are at least 5 weaver artisans within its community. If required, they may work with designers.
  • Applicants must complete a fashion collection comprising of at least 6 outfits – for male or female – which will be used for both the online show to be broadcast on 15-17 October and the physical runway show in early December.
  • The fashion collection must feature Southeast Asian handwoven textiles, used in apparel and/or accessories, woven on handlooms by a weaving community. These can be decorative weaving such as supplementary weft/ warp textiles (such as songket), tapestry weave, ikat/ mudmee and plain weaves.

  • A video presentation of maximum 3 minutes, featuring the weaving community or behind-the-scenes footage behind the making of the collection.
  • Three photographs of the weaving community. If working with a designer who is unable to physically be in the same location, an additional photo of the designer will be required.
  • Write-ups on the community, for the organiser’s marketing purposes

And by 30 September 2021 :

  • A video presentation of maximum 5 minutes, showing a collection of at least 6 outfits.
  • Photographs of the collection for placement on our website (including online store) and social media.
  • Write-ups on the collection for the organiser’s marketing purposes

Videos should be shot in landscape format. Video format should be in MP4 and in high resolution. Should there be a music soundtrack to the videos, please ensure that such music is either copyright free or that the copyright belongs to the applicant.

Participants also have the choice of couriering the garments to Kuching, Malaysia where the photographs and video of the collection can be produced for a fee ranging from USD 1,000.

PARTICIPATION FEE

A participation fee of USD 100 is payable upon the successful selection of your entry on 31 July 2021. As soon as you are notified, payment will be made via an online payment gateway.

E-COMMERCE STORE

Outfits couriered to Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia will be available for sale on the event’s e-Commerce store, with net sales proceeds to be paid toparticipants. Pre-sales will begin on 15 October with the outfits to be delivered to buyers after the December fashion show.

AVAILABLE SPONSORSHIP

Thanks to the generous support of Maybank Foundation Malaysia, up to ten Malaysian participants will receive sponsorship upon approval of their applications, as below:


Production Costs of Collection RM 8,000

In addition, 10 Malaysian participants will be sponsored to attend the  proposed international event in eco-fiber and textiles which will host the TENUN physical fashion show (subject to allowable COVID-19 protocols).
